 The Animal That Therefore I Am

The Animal That Therefore I Am is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and taxidermy by former Camberwell College of Art students Wiggy Cheung and Cait Peterson. The exhibition will run 13-29 May (closed for Bank Holiday 27 May), and is in support of mental health charities Rethink and Mind. Donations will be gratefully accepted, and a portion of the proceeds of sales will go to these charities.

Wiggy Cheung and Cait Peterson’s work shares the central theme of animals. Coming from a background in illustration, each piece is suggestive of a narrative of emotions. The idea of solitude plays a large role. The images create a melancholic atmosphere, hinting at depression, sadness, fear, and loneliness. Wiggy and Cait’s work juxtaposes the calmness of everyday life with unexpected elements, creating a sense of the surreal and absurd. Wiggy’s delicate paintings contrast with Cait’s bold lines. Bringing these two artists’ work together through the depiction of animals opens up new perspectives on human emotions.
